Went fairly well. :)
We have a few dead foggers that we'll try to replace this afternoon.

It was so great to have family and friends come by to see us and wish us lcuk!

Bryan and Dena... we love you guys! You're the best and your whole family is completely FABULOUS! Can't wait to see you again in November.

Jamie, Jenny, CJ & Bridgette... we are so lucky to have you as neighbors and friends! Thank you for the photos, video and your amazing little jacko carvers!

The wind yesterday produced gusts up to 50mph. It wreaked some havoc on the display but nothing catastrophic as of yet. (knock on wood)

It is supposed to continue today and then die off for tomorrow. There isn't much point to starting any repairs just yet. So if you are someone who plans to drive by the yard later - you may want to wait until tomorrow night. :)

We were joking last night that the effect the wind created in the windows and the banging shell chimes were sounds that we would usually download and use as atmospheric effects in the haunt. And yet, here it was in real life! It's too bad we didn't have any great recording equipment or we might have tried it.

Truthfully, we'll take wind over masses of Halloween snow or rain any day!

The countdown has begun!

Our wonderful neighbors Lynn and her son Tracy stopped by yesterday to see the haunt. They were so kind and and complimentary of the haunt. It was truly amazing to get to know them a bit.

We had been a bit nervous about our candy stock for the big night, as the traffic and interest has been much higher this year than the last.

Lo & Behold...

These two wonderful people were kind enough to come back by a bit later with an INCREDIBLY GENEROUS contribution of 32 BAGS OF HALLOWEEN CANDY!!!!!!!!

We've had a beautiful Goldenrod Crab Spider like this one take up residence under our coach light by the front door.

She's quite large and very agile. She's been with us nearly 3 weeks now, though lately she's been hiding under a leaf in a fake plant that hangs there due to all the rucus with haunt setup. Or maybe she's incubating babies.... hard to say what the true reason is.

I keep going out later at night to see if she is spinning a new web again, so that she might let me photograph her. Though, she's been playing camera shy.

It's truly an amazing and beautiful thing when she lets us watch her and we check every day to see that she is still there. We hope she sticks around for the haunt - there's nothing quite like a real spider and web for authenticity. :)

You know you're a haunter if...

you have to schedule a media night;

children walk by and say WTF...

...your neighbors complain that THEY have to buy more candy because of YOU;

you have more skulls in your garage than friends on FB;

you actually consider how your home improvements will affect your haunt;

you can think of something to add to this list...

...you need to fill out a vacation request for the day AFTER Halloween;

you stop doing yard work in August;

you provide an additional 60 amp power supply to your electrical service;

your countdown to Halloween starts in July;

you think your countdown SHOULD have started in May.

A huge thanks to Mama, for all her hard work and efforts put in to make this happen this year, despite the blizzard and exhaustion. ;)

Aaron, Rachel, Kennedy, Kaleb, & Stacey, all of you were so helpful to us on Halloween night, and kids, you are the most amazing little haunters.

Our wonderful new neighbors, who were extremely supportive of our freaky yard this year. Jamie, Jenny, Bridget and CJ: Fraz and Jan: Jimmy, Corrine, Jalayah, Kiaya & Isaiah: Evelyn & Darryl. We couldn't have done it without all your love & support.

Alright, screw the weather!!!!

We are working our hineys off to get enough done today to be able to run a test night tonight, 10-30!

The sweetest lady, a neighbor from the next street over, 'Jane' stopped by with her son, Andrew, a little while ago to say 'Thank You' for all we have done for the community for this Halloween. There is nothing that could have warmed our hearts more to be able to push through this weather and make it happen no matter what. Oh... and she came bearing the most beautiful loaf of freshly made Pumpkin bread!!!! Thank You Jane & Andrew!!!!!!! You made our day, and our Halloween.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!! Snow and Inclement Weather

Well, we are getting dumped on with heavy snow. This has put a bit of a damper on preparations... PLEASE READ ON FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION...

However, we are diehard haunters. As such will go on as planned for this season. Please be aware that Test Night as originally scheduled - Thursday October 29th, will likely be spent making repairs and attempting to finish up preparations that we were unable to get to as a result of the weather. We will not be in costume on this night.

Now... if the weather does not clear, we will move Test Night to Friday October 30th. Visitors are still welcome on this night, all we ask is that you bear in mind that repairs will be under way and lighting/fog may be scarce.

'Two centuries ago, a man lived in the area, a recluse shunned by the other villagers. Though wolf attacks were common at the time, his flock of sheep was never touched. One night when the moon was full, a farmer saw a wolf run into the shadows; he gave his gun and gave chase. He fired at a shot, but in the darkness, could not find the animal's corpse. He waited until the following morning, where he discovered the body of the recluse in his field. With the superstitions of the time, the villagers did not wish to bury the man in sacred ground, and so erected a tombstone far out in the surrounding forest. I remember coming across this grave as a child, but until now, I could not locate it despite my constant searching.' - Eggman

Alright, so my guess is that no one is able to access the site for very long.

No matter what browser I'm using, whether or not I have cleared the browsing cache, or whether or not I increaase the amount of Flash virtual memory to maximum - the site keeps crashing less than a minute or two after hitting it.

Have contacted the support team at my hosting company. Fingers crossed. I really don't want to have to rebuild again.

On another note, I was able to finish the image organization for the factory galleries last night. Not that it matters much if you can't get to it to see it. Blah! STUPID WIX!!! I think I'm going back to Flickr surfing for awhile. ;D

The new website is up. Though I haven't finished organizing and uploading all of the images. Especially in the 'Factory' galleries. On the old site, it was just one VERY longggggggggg slideshow of all the projects at once. It took about an hour to get through the whole thing if anyone was patient enough to do so. I designed the new site in Flash, so I'm wondering if there will be any viewing or loading issues for some visitors. My hosting company is not as reliable as I would like. Although, if you found your way here, I imagine it worked out alright for you. ;)

Expansion

We've made the official decision to expand into the backyard this year. Very exciting. The ideas are flowing nonstop. Our only real concern now is that there are only 86 days until Halloween! We've enlisted a few friends to help out with construction, so that should help us reach our goals in time for the big nights. (3 nights this year!)

New House… New Possiblities…

We’ve completed the big move. Now it’s just a matter of taming the ‘jenga jungle’ as we call it.
I’m looking forward to new creative adventures and working on setting up the new studio so that I can get back to work.

As the yard here at the new house is so much larger, I have begun to get excited about the Halloween season again. Each year we haunt our yard for the neighborhood kids and each year new ideas jump into our heads about how to expand and make it even better than the last.

As these new possibilities come flooding in, I have been visiting some of my old favorite sites and yard haunter blogs and wanted to take a moment to make mention of one of our all-time favorites.
